BAM-1 began as Group14’s first commercial Battery Active Materials factory, and became the proof point that silicon battery materials could be manufactured reliably at scale. Today, it has evolved into a dedicated, best-in-class R&D center staffed by world-class scientists and engineers. Every advancement in SCC55® technology, every next-generation process improvement, and every manufacturing breakthrough that reaches our global factories starts here in Woodinville.

A battery materials lab built for development at scale

BAM-1 houses a state-of-the-art battery materials lab capable of producing gram scale to thousands of kilograms of development materials enabling rapid scale-up from proof of concepts to pilot scale production. This unique capability enables rigorous, high-volume testing and iteration that goes far beyond conventional lab-scale research. This means our scientists can move faster, validate more confidently, and deliver better materials to our global manufacturing network.

Advanced material characterization capabilities

BAM-1’s advanced material characterization lab provides the analytical tools to investigate the structural, chemical, and physical properties of materials from lab scale to pilot scale. Our scientists use unique techniques to rapidly screen new materials and use the information for new process and product development as well as technical support for other production sites.
