Washington State Governor Jay Inslee and Representative Davina Duerr met with our team at our HQ and toured Group14’s BAM factory in Woodinville, Washington earlier this week. Group14 CEO Rick Luebbe spoke with Governor Inslee and Representative Duerr about Group14’s critical role in accelerating the growth of the state’s clean energy economy, and Luebbe shared an overview of our plans to scale commercial production of our silicon-carbon composite battery anode, SCC55™, which will enable the next generation of battery technologies.
“This is one of the most exciting companies I’ve ever met, with huge advances in battery technology,” stated Governor Inslee.
Inslee met privately with Group14 earlier this year at the site of our facility and lab located in the REC Silicon factory in Moses Lake, Washington, and was enthused to hear about the BAM factory’s commercial production. With the BAM factory’s 120-ton annual production capacity of SCC55™, combined with plans to expand output by 12,000 tons per year with a BAM-2 factory east of the Cascade Range, we know that it’s key to meet demand for more affordable and safer electric vehicles, better performing consumer electronics, and a renewable energy infrastructure today.
“This is in an industry that might get a couple percentage [performance] improvement per year,” said Luebbe. “This is a step-change transformational improvement in that fundamental technology and will unlock all kinds of advantages.”
