At Group14, sustainability goes much deeper than words on paper. We view all of our decisions through a lens of stringent environmental responsibility. Our perspective is that it’s the duty of our business to leave the planet better off than how we found it when we began.
As corporate citizens, we have three choices:
- cause harm;
- be impartial; and
- act in the name of harmony.
No matter the state of the world, we always make decisions in the name of harmony and believe it’s our responsibility to prevent and alleviate environmental damage that may be caused by any commercial activities we’re a part of.
Environmental responsibility is important to us, because every person who has ever lived has depended on the natural world for their survival. That won’t be changing anytime soon. We’re now in a place where industries and corporations are exceeding what our environment can provide us. To rebalance the scales, we see sustainable business practices not as a nice-to-have, but an absolute imperative .
Group14 hopes to be a recognized leader for environmentally responsible global manufacturing. Our commitment is to track and mitigate our carbon footprint, reduce waste, and use renewable energy — and less of it — while always increasing our efficiency through sustainable energy technology. Our products and operations will help wean off of a dependence on fossil fuels, and our company will always make environmental responsibility a part of our standard operations.

We have an enormous responsibility to our planet and what we’re doing. At Group14, we really do have that [responsibility] as part of our culture. We always say we’re out here to save the world, and that may sound kind of trite, but it really is what we’re trying to do: help out as we can.
If you think about trying to develop better energy storage materials and how important that is for the planet, it’s enormously important — and no one company can do it all. We really have to acknowledge that we’re all in this together.
And that’s why at Group14, we’re so focused on the entire battery supply chain and trying to connect with — not just our customers, which is of course important, but trying to connect with our suppliers as well, all the way down to that raw material: thinking about the sustainability of our raw materials, thinking about how efficiently we can convert those into the battery material, and then working to make sure that our customers use our material efficiently, and we give them the best possible performance.
There’s all kinds of things that are going to have to happen to really make an impact for the planet, whether it’s recycling batteries or the materials that you put into them, or making sure they’re sustainable. No one company can really do all this, so each company has to play a part. I’m honestly very proud of my team at Group14 and what we’re doing. We’re a small piece of that greater global puzzle, but it’s really important, and we’re really excited to be part of it.
