Group14 Launches Commercial Manufacturing Factory to Onshore Domestic Battery Supply Chain

The new commercial-scale 27,000-square foot U.S. manufacturing factory to meet demand for higher-performing lithium-silicon anode materials. The new factory, located at Group14 HQ in Woodinville, Washington, also will house a new world-class R&D center, corporate offices, and serves as the first of several planned commercial manufacturing sites that will solidify the company as a global leader in advanced energy storage technologies.

Washington plant marks the rise of the Pacific Northwest as a lithium-ion supply chain hub. The large-scale commercial facility will be the first and largest silicon-carbon anode material plant globally that will enable lithium-silicon batteries and accelerate the electrification of everything. The facility will be powered by clean hydro-electric power and has been designed to be carbon-neutral.

Battery Industry Leaders Invest $18 Million in Group14 to Scale Li-ion Anode Materials

Announcing $18 million in new financing from Amperex Technologies Limited, Showa Denko, Cabot Corporation, BASF Venture Capital, and OVP Venture Partners, the new funds will be used to scale up manufacturing of a next generation anode material and advance into commercial production. The participation of these industry leaders together is strong validation of Group14's performance, scalability, and strong intellectual property position, not to mention the enormous market opportunity.

Independent spin-off company will commercialize cost-effective advanced silicon-carbon composite anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. Group14 will manufacture silicon-carbon anode materials with increased energy capacity compared to currently available materials while maintaining the low cost and high cycle life of graphite. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is supporting the project with a $2.8 million grant.
